China’s Economy Expands 8.9 Percent
"The country’s faster growth was largely fueled by increased bank lending, generous government support for exports and a 4 trillion yuan, or $585 billion, stimulus package that is spurring a dizzying array of building projects. According to the National Bureau of Statistics, the rate of expansion jumped from 7.9 in the second quarter, which would put the nation on target to reach the 8 percent target that Chinese economists say is required to maintain healthy employment and social stability." Experts Worry as Population and Hunger Grow

Leterme praat in Parijs over Tobintaks
Leterme neemt vandaag deel aan een bijeenkomst van de leading group on innovative financing for development, voorgezeten door de Franse minister van Buitenlandse Zaken, Bernard Kouchner. De leden gaan een werkgroep oprichten die moet nagaan of de invoering van een zogenaamde Tobintaks haalbaar is. Zo'n taks bestaat uit een kleine heffing op internationale financiële transacties. De werkgroep zou haar bevindingen moeten presenteren tijdens de G20-top in Canada, in juni volgend jaar. Lees het volledige artikel in De Standaard hier.
Weg vrij voor fiscale superdatabank
De regering heeft een akkoord bereikt waardoor de verschillende afdelingen binnen de belastingadministratie vrij gegevens kunnen uitwisselen en databanken aan elkaar koppelen. Lees het volledige artikel in De Standaard hier.
Vier op tien in administratie ontevreden met loon
Veertig procent van de administratief bedienden in België is niet tevreden over zijn of haar salaris. Toch zou maar een op vijf van hen van werk veranderen om meer te verdienen. Dat bericht La Libre Belgique op basis van de derde editie van de Office Team salarisgids.

Armoede treft ook werkenden
De inzamelactie van de Voedselbanken is gisteren afgelopen, maar een groot succes lijkt het niet. En dat terwijl het aantal klanten spectaculair stijgt omdat ook werkende mensen komen aankloppen. Ook het OCMW merkt die trend op.
